This state was explored when a French ship visited this area in 1524. It became the part of United States in 1788 as 11th state. The city of Albany is the capital of the state. The state's name is generally written and called as New York State just to differentiate from New York City. On the north and west sides of the state there are Lake Erie and the Canadian province of Ontario. On south it is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont are situated in the east. Genesee, Mohawk and Hudson are the main rivers of the state. The agriculture sector contributes a lot to revenue generation for the state. Dairy products, nursery products, apples as well greenhouse are the major agricultural products. Livestock produces 2/3 of the agricultural income of agricultural income of the state. It is the leading state in manufacturing of chemical products.
