Texas Webcams

If you think Texas, "big" is the word that will come to your mind. It is the second largest state of the United States, both in terms of surface and population. Nicknamed as the Volunteer State, Texas has heavy Spanish influences from the past due to its colonization. Even today almost one third of the Texans are Spanish speakers. Its name is also derived from a Spanish word, meaning friends or allies. This is in tandem with the motto of the state as well. Texas got its freedom from slavery into the status of a separate state of the union on 29th December 1845, when it became the 45th state of the US. The capital of the state is Austin, while Houston is the largest of all cities in the state. The state went through an economic boom after the Civil War and especially after the discoveries of several oil reserves. Today it is a largely industrial state.
