It's also used for every type of cargo under the sun - handling over 35 million tonnes every year. From our camera, looking west over Southampton Water, you can see the ships as they make their way to and from Southampton Docks. Look out for the Red Jet and Red Funnel ferries to the Isle of Wight, and pleasure craft from marinas in Hythe and Southampton.
