Compared to one of the best WebCams ever made, the 3Com Homeconnect, the Philips had a surprisingly similar level of performance and image
quality. In fact, when viewing the WebCam images side by side it was hard to tell the difference. While the 3Com seemed to have a more proactive
light adjustment mechanism the Philips provided nearly the same image quality. At the claimed resolution of 800 x 600 pixels the images were
big and sharp.

For video conferencing the impressive 40 frames-per-second peak rate would provide crisp fairly "jerk free" video. Bear in mind that
video that fast would require a decent computer and if used on the Internet a very good connection. The Philips does feature a built-in microphone
which did a reasonable job when used with Netmeeting. As most people have realized now, a quality headset with microphone is still the best choice
for clear audio.
As with most webcams the included software bundle features image editing software, Netmeeting, and the Philips webcam software. A registered version
of Webcam32 is not included for those that want to setup webcam sites.
The Vesta Pro is a typical USB device and requires the software drivers to be loaded before you install the webcam. A quick reboot and the WebCam
is up and running. The WebCam worked well with Windows 98, 98 SE, Millennium, and even Windows 2000 Professional. So far, there doesn't seem to be a
hardware chipset that conflicts with the Vesta Pro (believe me, that does happen with USB).
All in all, the Philips Vesta Pro is a much different WebCam than other models in the Vesta product line. Be careful to get this WebCam versus
many of the similarly named models. Considering the price is under $100.00, the quality of this WebCam is excellent.
** Technical Tip **
Unless you are running a video conference, set the frame rate to 5 fps.
The WebCam will produce a higher quality image with better results in awkward lighting.
